Life is a Musical

with 2 comments

I will just say it straight out, no delay: I LOVE MUSICALS!

If you don’t already know, perhaps my favorite genre of movie is “musical”. I watch them frequently, and I typically purchase the soundtrack, learn the words, and sing-a-long with them when I watch, assuming it doesn’t bother those around me watching at home!

This past weekend, I watched the new Hairspray with the family. This has to be one of my top 10 favorite musicals of all time (has to be this version, not the older one). When this movie came out in 2007, I watched it in the movie theater 10 times. Then, I bought it on DVD, and watched it about 7 more times that winter. I have the soundtrack, and listened to that for nearly 2 months every time I drove in my car!

Hairspray

As you can see, I LOVE THIS MOVIE! However, there are others that I like as well: Dreamgirls, Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, Oklahoma, Anne Get Your Gun, The Sound of Music and of course, High School Musical. I know, I know, I have been ridiculed for my love of musicals, especially for the last one there, but I cant help it, I am a musical freak!

Often times, I watch these musicals and I think, why can’t life be like a muscial? How AWESOME would it be if you could just break out into song and dance, and eveyone around you sings and dances with you? Havent you ever felt so excited about something that you just wanted to sing and dance? I have had that feeling, and I have it often!

After seeing Hairspray on Sunday, we went to Home Depot to get stuff for our garden, and of course, on the way to the store I put in the soundtrack and Laura and I turned up the radio, and were singing and dancing (as much as we could while being safe at least), and I had to show off some dance moves in the parking lot as well. (Some people were going to their cars and saw me “dancing”. I think they though I was having a spasm). I will be the first to admit that I don’t have “dance moves” that would impress you, but I am not afraid to show what I got! Imagine Barny Fife at the disco with the movements of someone riding an electronic bull. Replace the face of Don Knotts (Barny Fife) with mine and that is about what it looks like when I dance!

OK, so I know that in real life, we cant have a full on musical production in the parking lot of the grocery store, or in the middle of the airport, but gosh dangit, I can still dance and sing, even without my background vocals and dancers! Muscials make me happy, dancing and singing make me happy, and what better way of expressing how you feel than singing and dancing?!
